Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders ~ FASDs are 100% preventable if a woman doesn't drink alcohol while she is pregnant. Learn more about the cause, signs, and treatments and what you can do if you think your child might have an FASD.

Preparedness for People with Blood Disorders ~ Disasters and emergencies affect hundreds of thousands of lives every year. Each one can have lasting effects, both for people and property. People with acute (starts suddenly and is usually short-lived such as the flu) or chronic (develops slowly and lasts a long time such as diabetes or arthritis) illness are more likely to become ill, or even die, if they cannot see their usual caregiver. And this is more likely to happen during a disaster or an emergency. The need to plan is very important if you, or someone you care for, have hemophilia or another bleeding disorder.

Closing the Pool ~ Labor Day traditionally marks the end of the swimming season with outdoor pools in many areas closing for the year. However, times are changing as more people seek year round fun at indoor pools and spas (e.g. hot tubs). Remember, swimming is a fun physical activity but it can be associated with the spread of germs during any time of the year.

Preventing Suicide ~ Most people are uncomfortable with the topic of suicide. Too often, victims are blamed and their families and friends are stigmatized. As a result, people do not communicate openly about suicide and an important public health problem is left shrouded in secrecy, limiting information needed for prevention research.

H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) ~ CDC Investigates Human Cases
