Alexandre Oliva's patch at that time (<orsnxk8oqu.fsf@garnize.lsd.ic.unicamp.br> on libtool-patches) used umask to avoid that problem, but wasn't committed (an entirely separate patch was committed under that log message). -- Joseph S.
