It seems the patch only works for decimal?

./perf stat -e 'cycles/period=0xaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa/' true
event syntax error: '..les/period=0xaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa/'
                                   \___ parser error
 Run 'perf list' for a list of valid events
