To underscore the dangers, the U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Forest Service and Federal Aviation Administration have launched public education campaigns and are collaborating with industry to increase drone operator awareness of wildfire locations and the penalties for illegal UAS use in the area of a wildfire. Restrictions affect public land managed by the BLM in Humboldt, Mendocino, Trinity, Shasta, Tehama, Butte, Siskiyou, Lake, Sonoma, Napa, Yolo, Colusa, Glenn and Solano counties. Half of the animals live on BLM land in Nevada. The federal government, under the authority of the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, manages, protects and controls the equines, and is authorized to remove excess horses and burros from the range to sustain the health and productivity of the land for other livestock and wildlife. The group, which bears the name of the preserve, just won an award from the Bureau of Land Management for two decades of solid work. HCCP volunteers perform preservation work, provide educational programs to help young people better understand nature and our relationship to it, and other duties that maximize the use and enjoyment of the preserve. The BLM is accepting additional nominations until June 23. Jeffrey Froke of Pebble Beach and Laurie Collom of Bakersfield were appointed to represent the public at large. Froke is an ornithologist and former state park ranger and game warden. Collom is a real estate appraiser. Bob Schneider, of Davis, a co-founder of Tuleyome, was appointed to represent environmental organizations. Reb Monaco, of Hollister, a retired educator and former San Benito County supervisor, was appointed to represent dispersed recreation.
