Napa Valley Register, 9/7/2015
California will provide the $1.4 million needed to buy a 443-acre ranch and create a convenient entrance to Cedar Roughs Wilderness Area west of Lake Berryessa. Hikers presently must ford Pope Creek — if the water is low enough — and bushwhack to reach the federal Bureau of Land Management’s Cedar Roughs area. Only then can they enjoy 6,400 acres that feature a 2,800-acre stand of Sargent cypress. The Land Trust of Napa County and Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District see a better way. (

WILDLIFE QUESTION OF THE WEEK ANSWER

What has contributed to the decline of Desert Bighorn Sheep population?

Answer d) All of the above
The desert bighorn sheep population has declined over the years. One factor that has contributed to this is pneumonia, which has spread from domestic sheep to wild bighorn sheep. The bighorn sheep cannot fight off this disease as easily as the domesticated sheep can. Other factors include other diseases, increased mountain lion predation, and drought. Desert bighorn sheep are fully protected under the West Mojave Planning Area. For more information, please click on the link below.
