Hello John,
the simplest way is to install Slint on an external, USB connected SSD
(preferably) or hard disk.
Then just plug-in the external drive before starting the installer and
choose
the Auto installation mode: the installer should detect the external
drive and
propose you to partition and format it, then install Slint on it.
At end of installation, Slint will set up the dual boot for you.
Under some conditions you can also free enough space on the drive or
even have
it freed by the Slint installer to install Slint, as indicated in:
https://slint.fr/doc/HandBook.html#_install_slint see especially this
chapter:
https://slint.fr/doc/HandBook.html#make_room_for_Slint
Then again Slint will set up the dual boot for you.
It shouldn't be troublesome if you remember to run as root from Slint
"update-grub" every time you install anew kernel in Debian.
Or, you could install Slint in a virtual machine in Debian, in a similar
fashion
as I just posted to install Windows in a virtual machine in Slint.
Or buy another machine to install Slint <smile>
Warm regards,
Didier

Hello Didier,
I'm 85. I tried dual boot, but I found that it was troublesome. I am running Debian. How would I try slint?

Hi John,
I don't think anyone here will mark you as a fool, certainly not me.
Having one system par machine is certainly a trouble free solution.
Another one is to have each system on a separate drive (one being possibly
removable)
Or dual boot, if there is enough space on the drive and the machine boots in
EFI mode.
I take this occasion to tell you that Slint that I maintain is free for
people meeting all the conditions listed below:
1. Smart
2. Linux developer
3. Blind
4. Deaf
5. At least 2O years older that the Slint maintainer.
Hint: I am 72 years old
So, I'd be glad that you try Slint and give us a feedback. <smile>
All you need to know should be in our handbook:
https://slint.fr/doc/HandBook.html
Please let us know also how to enhance Slint and its documentation.
Warm regards,
Didier

Well, this will probably mark me as a fool, but I just use a Linux machine and a Windows machine connected by Samba.
Computers are relatively inexensive now, so why bother with virtual machines?
