Regarding Ubuntu mate on that machine, issues as in it doesn't run. I know it is a 64 bit machine, probably one of the oldest still working ones that I have ever seen. Was thinking drop arch on there, but have no clue what to do about a GUI for the guy since he's a total newbie. By ‘issues’, do you mean problems? Which distribution are you trying to use? With some versions of ubuntu mate I find they work. With ubuntu mate 20.4 I find I cannot install because of the fact that orca says ‘install as super user’ but not all the choices that are on the install screen. > On Jun 3, 2020, at 4:27 PM, Linux for blind general discussion <blinux-list@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > Hi everyone, > > I need to install a distro on a minimalist machine for a blind Linux newbie, but in testing even Mate is having issues. Ok, it's a piece of junk, but all the guy's got. > > I was thinking something like i3, but my research shows issues. What would you suggest? The machine is probably old enough so I could have bought it second hand when I finished high school 16 years ago. > > -- > Warm regards/Groetnis/Herzliche Grüße, > > Brandt Steenkamp > > Sent using Thunderbird from Ubuntu Mate 20.04 > > _______________________________________________ > Blinux-list mailing list > Blinux-list@xxxxxxxxxx > https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/blinux-list _______________________________________________ Blinux-list mailing list Blinux-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/blinux-list _______________________________________________ Blinux-list mailing list Blinux-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/blinux-list
