Chime asked about accessing virtual terminals 13 and above on Debian (assuming Stretch (stable) or above, using systemd) Edit the file /etc/systemd/logind.conf Note that it is all commented out. Add this line: NAutoVTs=24 (note that the default is six ttys started) The autovt service needs to be restarted, seems to be named autovt@.service # this lists this service as enabled systemctl list-unit-files |grep autovt /lib/systemd/system/autovt@.service is a symlink to /lib/systemd/system/getty@.service I tried restarting autovt@.service, and got an error about not providing an instance, didn't want to restart ttys 7-24, so I restarted this: sudo systemctl restart systemd-logind.service and I lost my X session running on tty2, but was able to access tty13 by going to tty3, then hitting alt+shift+f1 to get to tty13. ctrl+alt+shift+f1 seems to be used inside X (I was in gnome-terminal running vim, that sequence would insert characters). You can use either the left or right alt keys to get to tty13, they seem equivalent (Chime was trying to use the right alt key to get to tty13 and above). I rebooted back into X, and all was ok. _______________________________________________ Blinux-list mailing list Blinux-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/blinux-list
