I took Slackware as a basis and modified it. Main modifications: 1. The installer is polyglot and accessible with braille and speech. 2. The installed system is accessible with braille and speech, in text aka console mode as in graphical environments. So, Slint can be installed then used without a sighted assistance. 3. The system is pre-configured at time of installation. 4. Additional accessible tools ease administration and package management. They are mostly borrowed to or also used by Salix. 5. Added packages not shipped in Slackware like e.g. pandoc and vlc, claws-mail, doclifter, geany, MATE and LXDE desktops, compiz, inkscape, po4a, scribus, LibreOffice, all shipped in the same ISO and installed at once. KDE is also shipped in the ISO but its installation is optional. 6 The login managers (aka display managers) gdm2 and lightdm are added, with speech optional. LXDM is also added but don't speak. 7 Handy in-house tools like login-chooser (choose how to login, in text mode or with one of the display managers available, with or without speech), orca-on and orca-off (to enable or disable speech in graphical environments as regular user), session-chooser (to choose the default graphical environments among blackbox, fluxbox, mate, twm, windowmaker, xfce, and KDE if installed). Be aware that TWM and KDE are not really accessible. 8. Access to trusted extra packages repositories. > Is Slint Debian-based, Red-Hat Based, or does it use its own package > manager? Slint is Slackware based and includes Slackware's packages management system and tools plus slapt-get (similar to slapt-get) and its GTK GUI gslapt, slapt-src (to help build and install additional packages) and its GTK GUI Sourcery, and spi (installs extra packages if available, else build them if sources are available in a trusted repo, with dependency resolution). Kind of a slapt-src + slapt-get front end, written by George Vlahavas, Salix maintainer. If anyone wonders neither Slackware nor Slint use systemd so far. The init system is made of shell scripts. Sorry if you expected a shorter answer...
