OK Tim, yes its weird I can only up or download from sub-directories. I ran your 
commands. Your first for the root gave me a 73, while I tried 2 different 
sub-dirs, gave me a 2. And thanks, I should look at rsync. Seems you think it 
would provide all the features I enjoy in ncftp. And I will be back with an 
unrelated inquiree.
