Hello Rudy, in Debian I use to do as root a youtube-dl -U and taht had worked until now. In Ubuntu, I use to do sudo pip install --user youtube-dl --upgrade (since the Ubuntu youtube-dl comes under the python-pip package... I don't undenstand why but this also seem to work as explained here). Aldo.
