That would do it.
In Debian, the underscore character separates the package name from the
version number, so can't be used like this.
As I've never called the executable directly, I've never noticed the
underscore.
And doing an apt-cache search for wpa_supplicant brings up dhcpcd-gtk and
wpagui but not wpasupplicant. #fail
