In Mint 17, derived from Ubuntu 14.04, the default GUI package
managers are Synaptic and Software Manager. I don't know why, but the
latter always offers far more packages than Synaptic. Currently 72965
packages available through Software Manager vs. 46767 through
Synaptic.

Best regards,

Paul
