Well, I wasn't using an ftp setup, although there is ftp on my system. My downloads were made via firefox. The updatedb command didn't return anything, just my location. Since the files were made through firefox, how would you go about finding them, and then setting the default to the "Downloads" directory?

Thanks so much in advance.

Well River, as a set of reasonably obvious suggestions, first run
updatedb
as root or with sudo
then try a locate some obvious section of one of those file names. Try the file name also as capitalized. Next time, especially if you are running an ftp client such as ncftp, set the download path on the fly, such as
lcd /home/riverwind
Good luck
Hart
