Subject: Grub2

Hi all.

I am running debian unstable with kernel 2.6.38-2-686 on a Thinkpad T23.
Once before I upgraded to grub2 and ended up completely unable to boot and
actually ended up reinstalling. This was some time ago. Now I am again using
grub2 but with the chainloader; in other words, I have not run the command
to upgrade. I did this because I wanted to take advantage of the ability to
have audio feedback when grub's menu comes up. My question is: Is there a
way to tell whether grub2 will now work on my system; I'm definitely NOT
running that upgrade command this time unless i'm sure grub2 will work
without the chainloader! Has anything changed? Is there a reason why it
might work for me now if it didn't work before? I was never sure as to
whether the problem was in Debian or grub or was a limitation of my
computer. If it isn't going to work, I'll just continue to use the
chainloader and stay with grub2 in this way as long as some upgrade isn't
going to surreptitiously wipe out my chainl! oader and upgrade me
completely. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
