Any Chat Mode in Screen?

Well, when I have some1 join me in a screen session, as they are typing or 
editing, I ofcourse hear single letters in Speakup.  If I have a choice, I 
would rather hear a complete line sent after they mash enter.  Best example, in 
the good-old days of commo in DOS, there's an alt-dash which switches on a chat 
mode, where this works really nicely.  Just wondering if screen has something 
similar, at least for my end?  Thanks so much in advance
