With nvda even on a windows machine you have to forward sound and it does
work according to those on the nvda-dev list. If you want to play with
Jaws at least the demo runs in 40-minute mode and you can download that at
any time.

It may be worth noting that I've been trying with NVDA as I don't have a current licence for jaws or window eyes.
