Don't touch the router, you'll only thoroughly hose your own security if
you do so. The router can't help anything that runs entirely internally
as speech does. I don't know what flavor of Linux you use, but the
recommendation for fedora has been to remove pulseaudio and replace it
with alsa and use alsa to drive your sound card. Fortunately this isn't
difficult or involved to do. Installing alsautils and alsa-base packages
will ask you if you want to remove pulseaudio from your system and that's
something that should be done. Once that's done, as root running the
alsaconf utility should get you some reliable working sound card
