Better to run slapt-get since it excludes kernel upgrades by default. That means kernels do not get replaced unless specific instructions get provided to do so from the installer. On Sat, 29 Aug 2009, Jude DaShiell wrote: If slackpkg when a kernel replace situation comes up were to prompt the user to find out what kernel variant say like speakup.s they were running and if speakup.s and associated kernel modules were available do the replace but if one or both were not available don't do the replace, those of us who haven't yet succeeded with kernel building might have a smoother upgrade path.
do not run slackpkg because it appears it will replace speakup.s with the wrong upgrade kernel. I have a message into slackware on this problem now and will update as I learn more.
