If I get a .24 kernel will I get apm support or must I build it in?

I don't know what needs to be done to get APM support. However, I've attached a fairly simple Python script that will extract the info you want from the /proc/acpi/battery/BAT*/{state,info} files.

Thanks!
However, I charged it for like 4 hours I hadn't had it on battery since last night and it says charged 48%. Why does it say charged 48%? Shouldn't it either be "Charging 48%" Or "Charged 100%"?
Or is it just my battery?

I have to admit my laptop is quite old and the battery really does need to be replaced.
I only get about 1 H 20 M out of it...

Under linux how much battery life should I get?
In just a CLI?
And then with a gui?

If just the CLI will give me more then
will
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
Help save battery life?
I have gdm set as my log in screen...

Thanks for the script!
