Hi,

If you need software speech or if you need the graphical user interface, you're going to be completely out of luck with a floppy disk.

There used to be install methods using loadlin, do people even do that anymore?

Having your CD in the boot sequence is a good idea anyway so it's something I'd highly recommend getting help doing.
