You don't need patches. 1. Open your grub.conf, sometimes called menu.lst, and comment the two lines: #splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz #hiddenmenu 2.) For each kernel stanza, insert a Ctrl-G char, perhaps as follows: Title Fedora 8 Kernel That's it.
