Hi,
I had a similar problem with Fedora Core 5 last year. I cured it
temporarily bysetting LANG="sv_SE" in /etc/sysconfig/i18n, thusdisabling
unicode support on the terminal, which unfortunately made non-standard
characters such as the Nordic characters display incorrectlSuddenly
though, after a kernel updat, if my memory serves me right, the problem
vanished, and I could switch back to LANG="svV_SE.UTF-8".

Try applying all the updates to Fedora Core 6 and see if the problem goes
away.

Hope this helps,
/Tobias
