As you may or may not have figured out, Icecast is just a server. It allows streams to be sent to it and resends these streams to listeners when they connect.

there's several programs for sending streams to Icecast. I personally use Darkice (http://darkice.sourceforge.net) to do streaming, but there's a range of choices. Darkice merely monitors the soundcard, so you will need to get whatever audio you want to stream to appear on your soundcard. This may be as simple as setting a few mixer settings if your soundcard allows this, right through to getting a fully blown audio setup. It's all a matter of how complicated you want to make it.
