I get really stumped about all distros out there.
What is what and why?

Have you tried raising your Debian problems on the Orca mailing list?
Also, you might consider trying Ubuntu before Fedora Core 6, since it's
easy to get up and running with Orca on Ubuntu and it's Debian-based so
it's closer to what you are used to. No doubt Fedora is cool too though.
