the short answer is: yes. the long answer: only minor modifications to 2 key configuration files would be needed (if at all). the system should detect any hardware changes you've made and ask you appropriate questions regarding those changes (usually, when migrating cpu's, you also migrate a motherboard in the process). as for the version of the linux kernel: I386 will function just fine and compiling will not be a problem either (unless you wish to use some cpu specific enhancements).
