I don't know why your system is hanging. However, I would recommend
trying the boot media from the brltty site instead of stock Fedora
images.

The Speakup option is definitely superfluous. The Speakup Modified of
Fedora 4 is not yet released. At this time Speakup is not compiling into
the FC4 kernel. We are working on it--but it's not there yet, and would
not be in the Fedora release itself in any case. The Speakup Modified is
a separate distribution.
