hmm, I typed make modules and then make modules install.
Could the problem be that I didn't type make modules_install?

in the 2.6.x kernel there's no voyager-module anymroe for the USF-support.
However, starting with brltty 3.5 this is no longer needed.
Voyager-support has moved to a userspace-part of brltty and so the
kernel-module was discontinued in kernel 2.6
I think this is an inprovement )specially for boot/rescue systems).

as said, install brltty 3.5 or above (3.6 is out now).

did you do make modules and make modules_install?
if not, it's not too surprising they're not there :)
