Yes it would get very tedious indeed to have to answer all the
questions each time you unpack a new kernel.  What you can do is take
the .config from a previous built kernel and copy it into the new
directory after you do the make mrproper.  Then do make oldconfig
which will go through the .config and only ask you about configuration
options which are new or have changed since the original .config was
made.  You can do a make or make bzImage modules_install and build
everything.
