You don't want to be using pine to download email, that's best done with
fetchmail and a .fetchmailrc file in your home directory.  The -k switch
supplied to fetchmail will get you a copy of what's in your mailbox
without deleting it.  Authentication with pine, I'm interested in that
myself.  One of my i.s.p.'s also requires authentication.
