Here's the original BRLTTY-3.3 announcement which apparently didn't show up on this list when it was first posted. ----- Forwarded message from Dave Mielke <dave@xxxxxxxxx> ----- Date: Mon, 4 Aug 2003 11:03:15 -0400 (EDT) From: Dave Mielke <dave@xxxxxxxxx> To: "Linux Announcements for Blind Users (mailing list)" <blinux-announce@xxxxxxxxxx>, Paperless Braille Devices <pbd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: BRLTTY 3.3 Release Announcement Version 3.3 of BRLTTY is now available. As usual, it can be downloaded from: http://mielke.cc/brltty/ The most notable feature of this version is that BRLTTY now has an Application Programming Interface (called BrlAPI). This brand new API has already been put to use by the Gnopernicus project. Gnopernicus is the screen reader being developed as part of the Gnome Accessibility Project, and, because of BrlAPI, it can now work with any braille display supported by BRLTTY. Other features of BRLTTY 3.3 include: * The BrailleLite Millennium 40 is now supported. * The keyboard emulation mode for the BrailleLite now defaults to ON. * Various enhancements to the EuroBraille driver. * Various enhancements to the VisioBraille driver. * A deficiency affecting the Papenmeier EL40P has been corrected. * The default text table has been changed from "us" to "nabcc". * A text table for the Czech language has been added. * No text tables are installed if --without-text-table is configured. * No attributes tables are installed if --without-attributes-table is configured. * No contraction tables are installed if --disable-contracted-braille is configured. * A null screen driver is used if --without-screen-driver is configured. * The "Alert Messages" setting has been added to the preferences menu. * The "Say-Line Mode" setting has been added to the preferences menu. * Alert tunes no longer stall nearly as often when the system is busy. * Grade 2 American English contracted braille is even more accurate. * The "ignore" contraction table opcode has been changed to "replace". * The install-brltty script has been renamed to brltty-install. Do check the ChangeLog for more details. If you'll only settle for the complete story then have a look at the transaction log in the source repository (see the repository section of BRLTTY's download page for information regarding how to access it). Don't forget to give us your feedback. We're interested in whatever you have to say, whether it be a compliment, a bug report, a suggestion, a gripe, or whatever. -- Dave Mielke | 2213 Fox Crescent | I believe that the Bible is the Phone: 1-613-726-0014 | Ottawa, Ontario | Word of God.
