What's MC?

MC or midnight commander is a file manager that can be run
from the console or gui.
It is a great console tool especially for those just getting
started in linux.
type 
mc
at the command prompt to run the program.
The menues are very intuitive and it allows you to delete,
copy, rename, view or edit files.
It has a built in text editor and can be used to view
anything from HTML source code to JPGs.

Same operations used on files can be done on directories.
