  I use Icom pcr-1000 in Linux with Icomlib
http://www.philtered.net/icomlib.phtml
  and it works quite nicely. I have connected it into the soundcard via
mic input but never actually recorded anythin, just listened.

  I think it is however possible to limit record time with dd or head
commands, somethin like:
head -c28800000 /dev/audio > radio.au
should record one hour with tolerable sound quality.
