Collabora weekly progress w/e 2nd May 2021

Hi All,

Please find below a brief summary of the progress Collabora have made last week on Weston/Wayland and Pipewire.

Weston / Wayland

Marius:

- SPEC-3817 (Client that performs cmd line switching of applications) - writing a basic client (script) that performs an activation windows/applications over the cmd line.

- SPEC-3902 (Application launching intermittently stops working) - brief investigation into service homescreen and afm-system-daemon shows that sync calls would freeze out and cause a dead-lock which would ultimately stop homescreen serivice to start any other applications.

Pipewire / WirePlumber

Raghavendra:

- Debugged and fixed the issue with the python script to generate the GObject Introspection using the header file which is generated dynamically with the Doxygen created XML files.

IC Sound Manager

George:

- Implemented volume ducking feature in the policy; we can now configure ex. Notifications to duck the volume of Multimedia instead of pausing all music

- Added templated systemd units for wireplumber to be able to start it with different config files

- Partially implemented error monitoring in WpProxy to be able to catch ex. errors while creating a pipewire link or when enumerating parameters of an object. This fixes leaks of link objects, which are sometimes stuck in the "activate" transition because the transition does not error out.

Julian:

- IC - Finished implementing small IPC library to communicate with wireplumber.

- Implemented wireplumber module that handles PLAY and STOP events coming from IPC library, and link/unlink endpoints when PLAY/STOP event is received.

- Created upstream MR of IPC library and new wireplumber IPC module:
