Re: RPI3: vc4/drm crashes

Hi,

Last week I noticed that the AGL Homescreen on Raspberry Pi 3 B & B+ crashes after a while even without any user interaction with the same error in dmesg. I guess it might be a memory leak and may be Kangkook is experiencing it too. I have reported more details at JIRA SPEC-1745: https://jira.automotivelinux.org/browse/SPEC-1745

For the tests I used Samsung T24D390 FullHD HDMI monitor with the default AGL rpi configuration in weston.ini.

Best regards,
Leon

Which resolution of screen are you using ?

If it is HD 1080p, only 1 or 2 apps can run.

If it is smaller like 720p or XGA, it will become much better.

Hi Jan-Simon and all,

I installed Funky Flounder v6.0.0 to Raspberry Pi3 and uninstalled majority portion of APPs only to have the following four APPs.

```
Automotive Grade Linux 6.0.0 raspberrypi3 ttyS0
raspberrypi3:~# afm-install list|grep "id\""
    "id":"settings@0.1",
    "id":"launcher@0.1",
    "id":"homescreen@0.1",
    "id":"hvac@0.1”,
```

However, we still see the same error messages.

Hi!

If you go with flounder and reduce the apps to the minimum (e.g. max 3-4) apps running you will be fine.

Note that there no sound with the built-in soundcard on the pi (driver issue); you need to use USB Sound and adjust the config for that.

Other platforms: minnorboard Turbot, upsquare Board, renesas rcar-m3 or h3.

Worst case find a cheap Laptop with Touchscreen.

Dear Jan-Simon and all,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Since we are preparing for demo with AGL. The short-term priority for us is to find a platform that we can run our demo in a stable and reproducible manner.

We still prefer run our demo from RPi3 as it is cheap and easy to find commodity.

Is there anyway that we can fine-tune RPi3 for the demo besides upgrading to Flounder release? For instance, removing some APPs or adjusting kernel parameters from config.txt and so on.

If not, what hardware platform is verified as a most stable one and would you like to recommend?

Thanks for your help!

Regards, Kangkook

Hi!

This is a know limitation of the rpi3. Try the flounder branch where we mitigate it somewhat.

Hi all,

I installed AGL 5.1.0 on Raspberry Pi 3 board and testing with number of Homescreen App.
However, I soon get the following error message and the whole GUI freezes.

[  222.034184] vc4-drm soc:gpu: failed to allocate buffer with size 16777216

[  222.074023] vc4_v3d 3fc00000.v3d: Failed to allocate memory for tile binning: -12. You may need to enable CMA or give it more memory.

I saw the previous JIRA ticket about the similar issues and those are now close.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks a lot!
