Ok...test something and let us all know how it works. If you are running
raid 1, drop a drive while the OS is runnig and see if your system stays up.
If you don't want todo this, power-off unplug a drive from the controller
and reboot.

Do you get Kernel Panics ?

Subject: rh73 on highpoint ataraid

Hi, i managed to get ataraid working for redhat 7.3

i won't go into details... but these are the steps you should take:

1 make a redhat bootdisk with ataraid support (you need it later on) You do
this
by just modifying the boot.img on the redhat cd's with a new kernel and
modules
(in the initrd.img)
2 get the redhat7.3 boot.img disk and the promise rh7.2 boot& driver disk
3 mount the rh73 boot.img and the highpoint rh72 boot.img, and copy the
kernel
(vmlinuz) and the modules directory (in the initrd.img) from the highpoint
rh72
boot disk to the redhat 7.3 bootdisk. This gives you a rh72 kernel+modules
on a
rh73 boot disk, this way the highpoint driver disk for rh72 will work for
your
rh73 boot disk.
4 now boot with your modified rh73 boot disk and do the installation (on the
scsi stuff that highpoint emulates)
5 after installation your new setup won't boot... no problem, you made the
rh73
bootdisk with ataraid support. just on boot type vmlinuz root=7201 (72 is
major
ataraid, 01 means first partition, this could be 7202, 7203 for 2nd, 3rd)
6 now youve booted your new install.... install new lilo (there is a
mandrake
rpm on www.rpmfind.net, or build from source) and clean up (remove old
kernel,
make new one, etc. etc. etc.)

ok... this worked for me.. it's not a very clear guide.. but if you don't
know
how to make boot disks etc you probably shouldn't be doing this anyway...
