Hi, I installed rh 7.2 with the the ft scsi mod from promise ok, but I thought I would recompile my kernel and try out the new ataraid support for my promise chipset, which is allegedly supported. Hardware: asus A7V333, 256 DDRRAM, 2xMaxstore ata133 40G promise PDC 20276/ MBFastTrack133 Lite nvidia geforce 2mx400 filesystems are all ext3 kernel 2.4.18 patched with patch-2.4.19-pre8 After compiling my kernel with the ataraid params, and rebooting, the mounting of filesystems takes about 5 minutes to complete. Furthermore, performance is not very good. E.g. dd if=/dev/zero of=big count=3000k takes more than 3 min. With the promise supplied ft scsi mod, this same dd test takes about 1 min 17 secs. Rebooting with my kernel also causes some harddrive seek/read errors. Has anyone had good results compiling their kernel? thanks.
