Little more time now: I notice the HPT website does not include files for Debian but process should be similar to the others. I use SuSE, so things went a little easier. If you will download any of the zipped files, eg, SuSE_v13_370_372.zip, the file will include a pretty good installation manual including options for new install and update. Primary things to attend to: recompile your kernel with support for HPT 370/370A disabled, copy hpt37x2.0 module to /lib/modules/xxxx directory where other startup modules reside, and update your initrd file to call this module at startup, prior to loading kernel. Messages should then id your drive as a SCSI drive since the driver emulates a scsi drive. Then all should be well. The one concern I have is the creation of an initial start-up disk: will have to have a valid kernel with HPT stuff disabled and initrd with hpt module to allow recognition of the system. I believe there are directions for this in the manual in the .zip file. Good luck. Richard On Monday 04 March 2002 06:13 pm, you wrote: > thx i'll try it that way.. > btw.
