Red Hat has noth to do with the Promise propriatry driver. In fact, once you load that into your kernel, we KNOW things will go funny in your system..... Also, there was a minor issue with mtrr's in the original Red Hat Linux 7.1 kernel, that has been fixed in the 2.4.3-12 errata kernel Red Hat releases several months ago. But you can't use that because Promise doesn't support that kernel with their driver :(
