I view SS7 as super SIP technology utilizing PRI type signaling; but =
that=92s just shows the limited knowledge I have.=20

I don=92t know if I should be looking down the path of upgrading to =
become the "peer entity" or a better "line-side customer"

Thanks,

Subject: Re: why ss7

use ss7 controlled trunks to the PSTN when PRI no longer makes sense
for technical, policy, or economic reasons

when using F link SS7 linksets to control IMT, they function very
similar to PRI trunks; when using A link linksets connected to STP,
then you can have a single linkset or combined linkset connection and
grow by connecting IMT to other service providers without having to
install new ss7 links

very often policy will dictate needing to interconnect using ss7 if
you are to be considered a peer entity in the network; whereas is you
connect via PRI, you are a line-side customer (not a peer) of your
service provider

PRI and SS7 messages and parms map very closely; level 2 and 3
transmission and link control differ between the two
