In the early ages of SS7 red book said that the link can be go thru point-to-point very low speed links (mid 70's). In theory, you can use any 9600 bps connection. The truth in asterisk is that you MUST use E1/T1, all ss7 channels (libss7 and chan_ss7) are designed to be used ONLY over E1/T1.
