Although I believe it is necessary for a SCSI dvd driver, you can mount an ISO file without the sg module.
$ lsmod | grep sg
sg 49152 0
sg 49152 0
$ sudo modprobe -r sg
$ lsmod | grep sg
$ sudo mount ~/download/iso/archlinux/archlinux-2024.01.01-x86_64.iso /mnt/
mount: /mnt: WARNING: source write-protected, mounted read-only.
mount: /mnt: WARNING: source write-protected, mounted read-only.
