What the AUR really lacks is precisely this. A complete system of merge requests and issues, so that the packages are really projects in which anyone can collaborate at any given time. You could bring the AUR into your own GitLab instance, but it would require some development to make it work as an AUR. Another option would be to do the same but instead of using a full instance, create an AUR group in the current GitLab, but this would require the aforementioned development and would need something to handle permissions so that users cannot modify each other's repositories. Implementing other solutions would be, IMHO, too much of a stretch when with GitLab you have practically everything done.
