I have always understood having a RAID1 as an immediate disaster-
recovery system in case of catastrophic disk failure. It is obvious
that this will never replace backups as the purpose is radically
different.

The same goes for btrfs snapshots, they are a tool that allows you to
instantly go back to a previous point in time, but they are not a
substitute for backups either.

I guess we are all aligned on this.

Speaking of backups, I personally recommend restic[1] for this purpose.
