thanks.  in theory (modulo fat fingers), the only files i *removed* were
ones that [pacman -Qo] said were unowned.  and, *those* files were
unowned post [pacman -Syu].

a time machine would help.  absent that, again, i guess we'll "let that
mystery be".  thanks again.
