My laptop uses the r8169 module (ASUSTeK Computer Inc. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI 
Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller). I have not seen any ethernet performance 
drop. I do upgrade regularly (excessively!) and have fired most kernel 
iterations.
