This is exactly what I noticed in CentOS. (for some other package)

Once "yum / rpm" saved some file as ".rpmsave".

It echoed that:
"Restoring file /path/to/xyz.conf.rpmsave to /path/to/xyz.conf"

This way user does not get confused where that rpmsave file (or pacsave for us) vanished.
