In Arch Linux, kernel updates blow away the old modules so you cannot load modules anymore. Downgrading will just revert that situation and it does not need internet: pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/linux-version.pkg.tar.xz should do it. ProTip: reboot after kernel updates.
