Try it yourself and see how it works. Make sure you use it until you
write enough data to disk/partition that it would fill it if data did
not get overwritten (I'm thinking system updates).

I think I've tried it a few years back in a usb drive, didn't like it.
Can't comment on data loss, I don't remember if it ever imploded.
