Oh this is so embarassing. After packages of cinnamon-* are upgraded I always do $ cinnamon --replace & I always thought that's all what's necessary to do to get the new package-versions working. (Often I don't want to reboot, because of all the stuff on my workspaces.) "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" - Roy Trenneman That did it..
